So after being frustrated at not watching Friday 13th on Friday 13th.... Lola, Tilman, and I made another attempt at watching the film. I outsmarted the teenagers this time and bought our tickets earlier in the day.
The movie was fantastic! It simply took the original storylines from the 80s and modernized them. None of that ridiculous Jason X bullcrap! (However funny it may have been!) It was full of fantastic murder and mayhem all at the hands of a marvelously oversized Jason. And of course the ending was left wide open for more sequals! Jason will never DIE!!!!!
There were subtle and not-so-subtle allusions to many parts of the earlier films that only true fans of the series would remember watching during the original releases.... Which brings me to my major point of this entry.....
The most disturbing thing about watching this film..... Was not in the film itself. It wasn't even the teeny boppers.... I would have been right there with them as a teen. It was the multitude of under 10 children that were there. Some completely twisted parents actually thought that it was ok to bring their toddlers and pre-teens to this movie!
Don't get me wrong. I will take my children to see horror movies. They need to learn that it is just a movie and nothing to be scared about (after a few hours of nervous glancing over your shoulder). However, I will pre-screen such movies, and this release would not have made the cut!
It was beyond a scary movie. In true 80s horror fashion it was full of extremely vulger language, multiple sexual inuendos, and multiple graphic sex scenes. The terror in the movie was not just created with suspense, but also with marvelously graphic and horribly gory murders.
It was a dream for a horror buff like me. Somehow I feel that the 4-5 year old little girl that reminded her "Daddy" that, "I've had to hold my pee for a long time now," as we were exiting the theater didn't quite appreciate it the same way that I had.
I won't even go into the woman that brought her 9ish year old son in to sit next to Tilman. OK.... I will..... She reeked so strongly of cigarettes that I could smell her three seats down. Til had to breathe through his sweater the whole time in order to prevent from gagging! It was slightly telling when her son giggled profusely at the sight of one victims silicone infused "boobies" just one last time before her final death. Admitedly, for someone such as myself, who has seen thousands of horror movie deaths...... it was quite a hilarious way to die, but I know he was giggling at the "boobies"!
What is wrong with these parents!? Disturbing.
At least Jared Padalecki's face was spared from going through the wood chipper. Thank the heaven's for that! Now if he had only been shirtless at some point.......
